Q: What is a container?
Containers are web servers. They are the operating system and resources allocated to a project, and represent the building blocks of Stackable.
Q: What are Stackable environments?
Stackable Environments accelerate the development process by allowing you to create multiple versions of your website and then safely develop and test new features before pushing them into production.
Q: I don't understand all this talk about Containers and Environments.
I just want to host a website.
Hosting a website on Stackable is easy — probably even easier than you're used to. While Stackable includes many powerful features for developers who want them, Stackable Control can also walk you through creating a site step-by-step. It's simple and you'll be up and running in minutes.
Q: How much does all this cost?
Stackable pricing is simple: we only charge $35/month per 256MB of memory. Learn more about our pricing
Q: How many web sites can I host on each container?
You can host as many web sites as you want on your container. If you start running low on resources, Stackable allows you to easily increase the size of your container or create additional containers.
Q: How much bandwidth and storage may I consume?
Every Stackable account comes with 1TB of network transfer every month and 50GB of disk storage to share between your websites.
Q: What if I go over the amount of bandwidth I'm allocated each month?
Additional bandwidth is charged at $0.25/GB (USD). You can find additional pricing details here
Q: How much CPU power does a container have?
A container can burst to 100% of its available CPUs. All containers are provisioned on Sun Microsystems hardware with dual 2.33GHz Intel® Xeon® quad-core processers.

| 16G | 8 processor cores | |
Q: Are you a cloud host?
Yes, but unlike Amazon's EC2, Stackable offers much more than just raw computing power. While Stackable utilizes virtualization to rapidly provision resources, it also includes a highly intuitive control panel designed to streamline the workflow of developers. You receive the power and resources of dedicated hardware without suffering time-consuming headaches from systems administration and configuration.
Q: Is this like managed hosting?
Absolutely, but with additional benefits that you won’t find anywhere else. Stackable provides many of the same functions as traditional managed hosting providers, including operating system updates, automatic local and offsite backups, load balancing, database administration, and performance tuning. In addition, Stackable makes it incredibly easy for developers: to move between development, testing, and live environments; manage and allocate resources via an intuitive control panel; and scale your site without needing to purchase additional hardware, software, or space. These next-generation features make Stackable a great fit for sites that want the power of colocation with the ease of web hosting.
Q: What happens if my container requires additional memory?
If you run low on any container resources, you can easily increase your container size or add more containers. First, log into your container via the Stackable web interface. Next, click on the container you wish to modify. Then, select the resource(s) you wish to increase (or decrease). Finally, click “Save.” It only takes a minute.
Q: Can I access my containers via the command-line?
Yes. All containers run CentOS 5 and are accessible via SSH and file-uploads are done via SFTP.
Q: What control panel interface do you provide?
After reviewing all major commercial software control panels, we didn't find one we would want to use ourselves. So, we started from scratch and wrote Stackable Control which is a simple, easy-to-use interface for controlling your web sites.
Q: Do you offer DNS services?
Yes! The stackable control panel has integrated DNS controls.
Q: Do you offer Ruby on Rails stacks?
Very soon! If you want specific dates or care to beta test, please email us and we will keep you in the loop.
Q: Do you offer Django stacks?
Django stacks will launch later this year. Drop us an email and we will keep you updated on our progress.
Q: How many databases can I use?
There is no limit on the number of databases you can create.
Q: Can I purchase additional IP addresses?
Yes. Additional IP addresses are $5 each per month.
